Ink!

The other day I ground up some Chinese sumi ink with an ink stick and ink stone. It's my favorite ink to use if I have the time to prepare it! It gets so rich and dark after about a half hour. There's something that feels grounding and just...human about making something from scratch whether it's a pie or your art supplies.

I filled up a page with some fresh ink doodles, scanned the whole paper and digitally separated the sections to move them around and collage.

Welcome

Hey everyone, welcome to my new website!

Last night, my friend Caroline and I drew this together..upside down!

I love to do these types of studies.  When you draw something upside down, there is this element of surprise at the end when you flip it around.  It's a great exercise in composition, space, light and shadow, etc. because you force your brain to use a new perspective.  I often find myself less judgemental about what I'm making.
